San Francisco Contemporary Architecture Map is a guide to the Bay Area's late 20th and early 21st century architecture, from 1980 to 2025. This limited edition two-sided guide is produced in collaboration with the American Institute of Architects. It features a map plotting exceptional contemporary buildings in San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley and beyond, an introduction by architectural historian Mitchell Schwarzer, photographs, and details of over fifty buildings. Some of the world's most influential contemporary architects and firms featured include Jeanne Gang, SOM, Mario Botta, Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, Anne Fougeron, Herzog & de Meuron, Daniel Libeskind, Renzo Piano, amongst others.

The map is available as part of our discounted collection of North American maps here: North American maps set.

Editor Mitchell Schwarzer, the author of our Modernist San Francisco Map, is Professor of Architectural History and Chair of the Department of Visual Studies at California College of the Arts. Schwarzer is the author of a number of books about architecture in San Francisco and the Bay Area.

A perfect companion for a tour or framing, this map opens to approximately A2 and folds to A5. The map is protected by a strong full length sleeve featuring a wrap around image of Ricardo Legorreta's Mission Bay Community Center.

This map has been printed in a limited run and is available exclusively from our website.

It is also available as part of our discounted North American set of maps and our complete set of maps.

As with all our publications, the San Francisco Contemporary Architecture Map is printed by a B-Corp-certified carbon-neutral printer on recycled FSC-certified paper using vegetable-based inks.
